The Leuchie Lighthouse Trail

The Leuchie Lighthouse Trail has brought a splash of colour and creativity to the streets of North Berwick this summer. Organised by Leuchie, the national respite charity based near North Berwick, the free outdoor art trail features 15 giant eight-foot lighthouse sculptures displayed in parks, streets and public spaces from 1 July until 21 August 2026. The event celebrates Leuchie’s 15th anniversary as an independent charity while raising awareness of its work supporting people living with neurological conditions and their families.

Each lighthouse has been individually designed and painted by a different artist, creating a colourful collection of public artworks inspired by Scotland’s coastline, maritime heritage and local wildlife. Businesses from across East Lothian have sponsored the sculptures, helping to turn North Berwick into an open-air gallery that encourages visitors to explore every corner of the town. The trail is suitable for all ages and is free to enjoy, making it an ideal family activity during the summer holidays.

The project follows the success of Leuchie’s hugely popular Big Hare Trail in 2021, once again partnering with public art specialists Wild in Art, whose sculpture trails have become attractions in cities across the UK and around the world. Visitors can follow a printed or downloadable trail map to locate every lighthouse, with maps available from selected locations in North Berwick.

Leuchie Lighthouse Trail Auction

When the trail comes to an end, the sculptures will be auctioned, with proceeds helping Leuchie continue its vital work providing respite breaks and support for people affected by neurological conditions and the families and carers who support them. For visitors, the trail offers more than just an enjoyable walk around North Berwick; it is an opportunity to discover the town, support an important local charity and enjoy a unique blend of art, community and seaside scenery.
